It is past midnight...why am I still awake? I have been to bed...and couldn't sleep....so I wandered around the house a while...still not sleepy. I was sleepy a couple of hours ago, before I went to bed. However, by 11 I wasn't sleepy. Should have stayed up. Other people are sleeping. Looking out the front windows it looks like the neighborhood is pretty much down for the night.
I don't even see any critters checking out the back porch...no raccoons, skunks or armadillos seem to be making their tours. Of course the birds are asleep...they generally retire at dusk...except for the Owls and the Nighthawks. Do animals have insomnia? Do they automatically sleep on schedule?
Why is it so infuriating to be awake when everyone else in the house is asleep? Maybe babies cry at night because no one else is awake and they are angry because they can't go to sleep. Some folks say they eat a snack when they can't sleep and that seems to help. I tried it once...then by the time I cleaned the kitchen again, and brushed my teeth and worried about the extra calories I had consumed, I was more awake (and angry) than before.
Maybe I should write the "Great American Novel"....or not. Well, maybe I'll try it again....Good night.
